Student Writing Contest

Sponsored by the Office of Institutional Advancement

1st place - $75 Wal-Mart Gift Card

2nd place - $50 Handy Mart Card

3rd place - $25 iTunes Card

Entry deadline is midnight, Monday, April 13, 2009. Students should write to an audience that is somewhat familiar with MOC. The best writings will be narratives that illustrate how the MOC experience has transformed their life. Winning submissions will capture the sincerity of the writer, use descriptive yet clear language and will concisely tell how MOC has had a profound impact upon the writer. A minimum word limit is 750 words. See the below suggested “idea starters.”

All submissions are eligible and subject to be featured in upcoming MOC publicity publications. Students grant MOC permission to publish their writings by entering in this contest.

All questions and writing submissions should be directed to Dr. Randy Cobb at rcobb@moc.edu. Submissions should also include a student’s name, phone, permanent mailing address, campus location, program of study and anticipated graduation year. All currently enrolled students are eligible to participate.

Idea Starters 1. Give a brief description of yourself and your back ground prior to attending MOC? Consider mentioning your high school, other educational pursuits, work experience, general life experience, passions, hobbies, hometown, etc. 2. Why did you choose MOC? If scholarships influenced your decision be sure to include this information. 3. Elaborate on how you feel you have benefited from your MOC experience? 4. Tell of how your MOC experience has transformed your life. 5. What difference has MOC made in your life? 6. What has surprised you about attending MOC? 7. Describe one of your best experiences as a MOC student. Why was it important and who helped it to take place? 8. What would you like to say to donors who are making college possible for students like you through their financial gifts?
